Recycling will be a high priority for Augustalee, both during and after construction.
During the construction phase, minimizing waste that goes into the landfill will be a project goal. Recycling efforts will include:
• Setting up recycling bins and separating recyclable materials
• Incorporating as many recyclable materials into the project as are locally available, such as recycled asphalt as road base material
• Focusing on improving indoor air quality, with no smoking allowed indoors during construction, protecting internal ducts and other airways
• Minimizing any internal mold issues by not putting any organic materials in the building (which can harbor mold if they get wet) until buildings are dried in
• Planting a centennial tree on site in commemoration of the contractor’s 100th anniversary and its commitment to the natural environment
• Recycling of existing onsite trees, converting as many as possible to usable lumber rather than putting them all in a landfill
After construction and occupancy of the buildings, recycling will also include:
• Providing dedicated bins for retailers to recycle cardboard and glass
• Providing internal bins for residents and office users to recycle paper, cardboard, glass and metal containers
• Promoting recycling with appropriate signage and reminders
• Working with local government recycling departments to cooperate with all existing and new recycling programs as appropriate |
