Cornelius, where Augustalee is located, has grown rapidly in recent years, and was recently named one of the 10 “Best Affordable Suburbs” by BusinessWeek. The town now encompasses more than 17,000 people, many living on the shores of Lake Norman. Cornelius won its high national rating based on such factors as livability, short commutes, low pollution, amount of green space, low crime rates, strong job growth, education levels and quality of schools, household income and other demographics.

Davidson is home to Davidson College, one of the nation’s premiere liberal arts colleges. The Davidson Wildcats basketball team often ranks high in the NCAA. Football, soccer, and many other athletic and cultural events on campus are open to the public. The neoclassical architecture of the campus has been carefully preserved in the town as well, which contains small stores and restaurants frequented by locals and visitors.

Huntersville has grown rapidly with numerous new residential communities and new shopping centers clustered around Exit 25 on I-77. Like the other communities its downtown also retains the old southern flavor. Huntersville is also home to Presbyterian Hospital’s modern facility just off the interstate, which serves the entire North End of the county.

Schools in the area are top quality (see education), with both public and private options. Many family activities revolve
around the schools, churches, parks and recreation, and social organizations of the area.
